11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- Assessing the interactions among tides, waves and storm surges and quantifying the contribution of wave-induced surge in the total surge in the sea areas from Quang Binh to Quang Nam by the couple model of surge, wave and tide.

- Detailed estimating of current status and risk of storm surges in the sea areas from Quang Binh to Quang Nam, and then develop the surge hazard maps which are the scientific basis for developing strategies to cope with storm surges and to help economic-social development.

- Proposing requirement of technologies for computing and forecasting storm surges and waves in the areas from Quang Binh to Quang Nam in order to improve the accuracy of simulation and forecasting results.



12. Paratical applicability:

The research results of the thesis can be applied in research and forecasting storm surges and served for response, prevention and mitigation activities of natural disasters caused by storm surges in the Central coastal region.



13. Further research directions:

- Interaction among tides, waves, storm surges and storm surge risk for other coastal areas of Vietnam.



- Assessment of the risk of flooding in coastal areas by storm surges combined with tides and waves.
